'the class was a great opportunity to further existing skills and learn exciting new information regarding colour and form.'- isobel higley, 14TH NOVEMBER 2018. (creative still life, 14.11.18)
'having completed seven weeks of the course so far, i am really enjoying the sessions. alex is an excellent tutor, leading and guiding us through each stage. his methodical approach is very helpful to a novice, untrained in the use of oil paints. the studio is warm and well lit and there are hot drinks available, as well as materials to purchase if required. all in a friendly atmosphere.'- Brenda sorrell, 14TH NOVEMBER 2018. (AUTUMN TERM OIL CLASSES, 2018)
'A very exciting and enjoyable course. I've learned so much about mixing colour and getting a painting started well. each week aids personal progression with new ideas and approaches alongside the reinforcement of basic principles that givee the picture structure. i have more confidence and feel hope for my future paintings.' - Miranda clarke, 14th november 2018. (Autumn term oil classes, 2018)
'I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW MUCH I ENJOYED YOUR WORKSHOPS. YOUR TEACHING WAS EXCELLENT AND VERY INFORMATIVE WITH GOOD INDIVIDUAL HELP WHEN NEEDED.ALL IN SUCH A LOVELY SETTING WITH GOOD COMPANY AND SUPPORT FROM FELLOW STUDENTS. THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE AND PRODUCTIVE DAYS.' - JULIE MCCONNELL, 15TH OCTOBER 2018. (AUTUMN TERM OIL CLASSES, 2018)
'I REALLY ENJOYED THE DAY AND I LEARNED A LOT. I REALLY ENJOYED EXPLORING HOW WATERCOLOURS 'WORK' WITHOUT BEING CONSTRAINED BY THE THOUGHT OF CREATING A PERFECT PICTURE. IT WAS A LEARNING PROCESS BUT IT WAS GIVING ME THE TOOLS AND THE PERMISSION TO BE CREATIVE AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, TO JUST ENJOY PAINTING. THE DAY WAS DEFINITELY INSPIRING.' - GILL JONES, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2018. (BUILDINGS IN WATERCOLOUR, 27.9.18)
'USEFUL AND ENCOURAGING INSTRUCTION. THANK YOU ALEX. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT CHALLENGE,' - BRENDA SORRELL, 20TH SEPTEMBER 2018. (LANDSCAPE IN OILS, 19.9.18)
'ALEX IS VERY GENEROUS IN SHARING THE BENEFIT OF HIS EXPERIENCE AND INFORMATION ABOUT HIS OWN JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST, AND THE EMPHASIS OF HIS PROGRAMME IS ON HELPING LEARNERS TO EXPERIMENT AND DEVELOP THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL STYLE. ALTHOUGH HE WILL HELP STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES ABOUT HOW LIGHT AND COLOUR INTERACT, HE IS NOT SOMEONE WHO IMPOSES A PARTICULAR WAY OF WORKING OR A 'RIGHT' AND 'WRONG' WAY TO CREATE ART.' - JULIA RICHARDSON, 4TH JULY 2018. (PAINTING CLASSES, SPRING 2018)
Alex has been a tutor for many years, and at Easter 2018 he launched the Lemon Studios Arts School. He helps students of all ability to reach their potential, whilst also having a lot of fun. Some of Alex's recent students have said of him;
"Alex's enthusiasm is infectious and he has absolute belief in everyone's potential to be creative and to express themselves through painting and drawing."
"Alex has helped me to develop a better understanding of light, colour and form, and his direction has helped me to create images that are livelier, fresher as well as being more convincing."
" Alex is a supportive and encouraging tutor. He was straight in giving me feedback and providing direction when I was struggling to see how to resolve a problem, but he did so in a way that was reassuring, motivating and gave me the confidence to persevere."
Alex is currently teaching the Autumn term classes, which see's students develop skills in oils, watercolour and charcoal drawing. Please follow the link above to be redirected to the Lemon Studios Arts School website.
