Learn how to make a 1/3 scale full figure sculpture with Christine Baxter (3 day course).
Day one
You will learn how to make your own armature, learn about the anatomy of the body, and how this knowledge helps in making the initial sculpt. We will look at the properties of the clay and how to best use the modelling tools. You will also learn simple techniques for scaling up and scaling down, so that you can work from a model and create a sculpture to a specific size. By the end of the day you will have blocked out the accurate size and shape of the model.
Day two
On the second day we will start to refine the shapes, looking at angles, scale relationships, and thinking about the underlying bone structure, you will mark the accurate positions of the parts of the body and start to block in the size and shapes.
Day three
You will closely observe the shapes and refine the features, making small judgments, as well as a general overview. Working towards a more accurate representation of the model.
The aim of the course is to equip you with skills that you can take away with you and apply in your own environment with a subject of your own. You will have a methodology of approach, which will allow you to practice and take your interests further. You will have learnt how to put your observations into a physical piece and refine your seeing skills.
Once you have finished your sculpture, you can either have it cast by us or learn how to cast it on our 2 day casting and moulding courses.
